Stupidity - directed by Albert Neremberg

Stupidity is a provocative, hilarious investigation into the history and significance of human stupidity as a cultural force. Directed by Albert Nerenberg and produced by Trailervision in association with The Documentary Channel, Stupidity made its world premiere at the 2003 Hot Docs film festival, where it immediately sold out all screenings. Clever, ironic, and—above all—outrageously funny, Stupidity is not to be missed!

Yes, this post isn’t just a personal opinion about stupidity, it’s an actual documentary created specifically because the majority of people suck at life. This is an account into the phenomenon known as the dumbing down of society.

What is stupidity? Well many people recognize it when they see it, but how can it be characterized and defined? Some things that we sense as stupid could easily be ignorance. What does the definition of “stupidity” actually state?

Stu•pid•i•ty n. , pl. -ties . The quality or condition of being stupid. A poor ability to understand and/or profit from experience. The quality or state of being stupid; extreme dullness of perception or understanding; insensibility; sluggishness.

This is not the best documentary that I have seen...far from it. Truthfully it does not dive too far into the stupidity that I would have liked but offers a quick insight. Early on in the film it is stated that the easy access to forms of media such as the internet have made the quick fix more of a need. People want to see people getting hurt, wiping out on skateboards, beating themselves over the head with bottles, street fighting. With such additions to the internet such as YouTube, everyone ca be a star. The cost of producting videos is very low and the ease of having them viewed by the entire world is extremely easy. If there is a market for people imitating stunts from Jackass then people are going to do it. That's the bottom line. If there's a market for it, someone will fill that void.

We are not only personally witnessing stupidity first hand, it is a world renowned phenomenon. Convenience is making the world not only more stupid, but ignorant as well. We’ve come to a point where results are the prime focus of what people desire. There is less and less interest in the process of achieving these results and more of a need for a quick answer, and a quick fix. Youth is now been growing up without never being to a public library? Also, some people do not own one book. I’m not talking about a magazine, but an actual novel or reference book of any sort.

Stupidity is an interesting film. It's nothing that will stay with you forever, but it's a brief look into how people are portrayed, and what factors might influence their stupid behaviours. Josh told me about it, and I'd recommend at least checking it out. Find it on a torrent site near you...available now!
